Browlift – for Men and Women – Burbank
Gone are the days when advancing age led one to focus on one’s health and appearance. These days, people of all ages work toward feeling and looking their best. Diet and exercise play a large part in daily routines; and, consequently, various means to improve appearance and health are explored. Cosmetic surgery is fast becoming the solution to safely and easily correct those aspects one feels detract from one’s appearance, no matter what age. Today, nearly one-third of those seeking various types of facial rejuvenation surgery are between 35 and 50 years old.
A common occurrence in adulthood is the appearance of wrinkles and frown lines. These often first appear in the brow and forehead area and may give the appearance of being older, angry or unfriendly. A forehead lift or browlift can smooth out the wrinkles and correct dropping brows and heavy lids to provide a younger, friendlier appearance. This cosmetic procedure can be performed alone to accomplish a specific goal, or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or laser skin resurfacing for an overall facial effect.
The Initial Consultation
During your initial consultation, Dr. Orloff will discuss the browlift/forehead lift surgery and your desired goals. He will explain the different surgical approaches, either the “open” (classical) method or the endoscopic forehead lift, and your probable outcome of treatment. The doctor and his trained and qualified team members will assist you in deciding which procedure will best meet your cosmetic goals and let you know what you may expect both with your treatment and with your surgery.
You will have the opportunity to review several before-and-after photographs of patients having
similar concerns as you, and their surgical outcome. Dr. Orloff may want to take before-and-
after photographs of you to document your successful results.
The “Open”Browlift Procedure
A browlift can be performed on an outpatient basis, typically under general anesthesia. The procedure itself may take one to two hours. Should you choose the classical or “open” method for this surgery, the incision is hidden just inside or by the hairline across the scalp and between the ears. The appearance of wrinkles is lessened by removing selected muscles and releasing the tissues that have caused the wrinkles. The eyebrows may also be elevated, and excess skin at the incision will be removed to allow a gentle redraping of your forehead skin.
Endoscopic Browlift
With the endoscopic approach, Dr. Orloff will make small incisions in the hairline, and will perform the surgery using a tiny fiberoptic lens inserted in those incisions. The lens is attached to a camera connected to a television from which he views the procedure. Additional small incisions are made for the insertion of tiny scalpels, scissors and retractors. The surgery is performed while viewing the television monitor and manipulating the tiny instruments externally.
An endoscopic browlift is particularly useful with younger patients where the removal of excess skin on the forehead is not required. With an endoscopic browlift, loss of sensation or hair at the incision site is minimized. Since an endoscopic browlift can significantly reduce the frown lines between the eyes, it is often performed in conjunction with upper eyelid surgery to achieve optimal results.
What Will the Recovery Be Like?
There is a minimal amount of discomfort following a browlift.
Shortly following the procedure you may wear make-up, and later your sutures will be removed.
